The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is seeking an individual for the position of Librarian (Cataloging) Tibetan in the Library of Congress Office (24 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, American Center).

The incumbent will perform two diversified roles; a) that of a cataloging expert in descriptive and subjective cataloging, specializing in one or more language/subject areas and b) that of an acquisition and selection expert in the Language(s)/subject(s) of assignment.

At full performance level, the incumbent is required to independently catalog materials in all formats and subjects, creating original whole book catalog records in accordance with highly complex and technical standards/rules established by international library organizations and Washington. The incumbent is expected to maintain independence by achieving and maintaining an accuracy of 85% or higher.
One year experience in an academic environment such as a School / College / University / Institute of Tibetan Studies or a Monastery.
AND
Two years’ experience in descriptive cataloging and subject cataloging in accordance with Library of Congress rules and guidelines.
At trainee level II, the incumbent will learn the principles of descriptive cataloging of serials and non-print formats, as well as the principles of subject cataloging, under the close direction of the Reviewer/Trainer and the general supervision of the Chief of the Cataloging Division. By the end of the training in subject cataloging, the incumbent must meet the quality standards set by the Library of Congress, viz. 85% accuracy. At the same time, incumbent must maintain the 85% accuracy in descriptive cataloging and increasing the number of titles cataloged to at least 1 title an hour.
One year experience in an academic environment such as a School / College / University / Institute of Tibetan Studies or a Monastery.
AND
One year experience in descriptive cataloging of monographs in accordance with Library of Congress rules and guidelines.
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
