Chok Tsering is currently working with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung (HBS), India office as a Programme Coordinator for the last four years. The Heinrich Böll Stiftung/Heinrich Boell Foundationis a German political foundation which has offices in more than 32 countries and is part of the worldwide Green movement.
Chok came from Tibet at the age of 7 and completed his schooling from SOS TCV Gopalpur in 2006. He pursued his bachelor’s degree in Political Science (Honors) from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University followed by Master’s in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. During his master’s time, he interned at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi and worked on human rights issues in Himachal Pradesh. Immediately after completing his masters, Chok joined the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), an independent think-tank based in New Delhi as a research intern under China Research programme.
He then joined the Foundation for Non-Violent Alternatives (FNVA) as a Programme Coordinator and Research Associate in 2012. FNVA is a non-profit organisation based in New Delhi and was set up to study and analyses developments in China, the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalaya. His major work at the foundation was monitoring current developments in Tibet; wherein he prepared monthly reports covering Tibetan issues in Chinese English language media. He prepared concept papers, research proposals and wrote articles, and organised various conferences and dialogue events related to above mentioned themes. While working in FNVA, he also pursued his M.Phil. from the Centre for Inner Asian Studies, JNU and completing it in 2014.
At HBS, Chok is responsible for overseeing the Foundation’s work related to issues of democracy in India, with a special focus on minorities as well as foundation’s work in the greater South Asian region. His responsibility includes conceptualization of programmes and monitoring of their implementation with a diverse focus on research initiatives, conferences or the creation of audio visual material. It also involves a close coordination with a diverse set of partner organisations and individuals from Civil Society, Think Tanks and Academia in India and abroad.
