Dr. Kalsang Tharpa is a scientist currently with SABIC Research and Technology, Bangalore. Dr. Tharpa’s research interest includes development of intelligent adsorbent for removal of genotoxic chemicals, sensors, online performance of heterogenous catalysts and green chemistry.
Born and brought up in Bylakuppe, he finished his secondary education from Central School for Tibetans, Bylakuppe and Mundgod. After his master, he received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Mysore in the year 2011. Prior to joining SABIC Research & Technology, Dr. Tharpa also worked as a Research Scientist at Apotex Pharmachem India Pvt. Ltd and Jubilant Life Sciences. Dr. Tharpa’s research output includes a book chapter (Springer), a review (American Chemical Society), a term definition on encyclopedia (Springer) and nine research articles in International journals.
He co-founded the Tibetan Scientific Society in the year 2008 as a platform to bring Tibetans in the field of Science and Technology together for learning and collaborations. It has organised four biennial Tibetan Science Conclaves so far that has helped inspire young Tibetans aspiring to excel in the field of Science.
He was one of the panelists at the recently held Global Vision for Young Tibetans conference 2017 organised by ENVISION to motivate participating Tibetan youths with his success story and contributions to the community.
