-Dr. Tenzin Kunchok
My name is Dr. Tenzin Kunchok. I was born in Dharamsala. From a very young age, I have seen my mother working as a Dental Hygienist in our school, upper TCV. Hence, the importance of oral health is something I hold dear ever since my childhood days.
After completing my undergraduate degree in Dental Surgery, I felt like I have achieved my goal yet deep within, I wanted to learn more and felt the importance of keeping myself abreast with the latest technologies and treatment methods in the field of dentistry.
During the lockdown, I started searching for institutes where I can further improve and polish my dentistry skills. Eventually, I found the Odontos Dental Academy at Zirakpur the right institute for my pursuit. However, the course fee was 85,000 INR and it was financially impossible for me to pay at this point in time. Hence, I applied for the ENVISION Fellowship programme and was so happy to get selected. I started the short-term course on August 7.
The first week of the course was mostly observational study and theory. I was supervised by a well-experienced Endodontist for practical hands-on experience. Over the course of my training, I have treated over 30 patients who had
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is also known as Endodontic Treatment. They also taught me how to use the latest rotary system which improves the quality of the treatment.
In the final month of my training, I was able to take single sitting RCT, followed by post-Endo-crown cutting and luting on my own. I have always been interested in the surgical part of dentistry. I was able to successfully pull off as many as 50+ extractions be it dis-impaction which is the surgical extractions with the help of incision mostly third molar or wisdom tooth and abnormally placed infectious tooth. I also got to perform laser incisions which are relatively new in the field of dentistry.
In these months of the general dentistry course, I was able to treat a total of more than 400+patients, gained rich knowledge on dentistry. The course also polished my skills to another level which helped me boost my confidence and morale.
I am grateful to ENVISION’s fellowship programme and thankful to ENVISION for believing in me. I am determined to give everything I learned back to the community. My vision is to serve my community by following the footsteps of my mother who has been practising dentistry for the last 30 years in the Tibetan community.
