I am Tenzin Lhanor and I am currently pursuing a short-term course on Tattoo Art at RIP Tattoo Studio, New Delhi. My passion for Art in general and Tattoo art, in particular, is not a novice development. I have always been drawn to art and I still vividly remember making tattoo machine with an amalgamation of pens, home needles and threads at school and practice it on friends. I would always participate in art competitions in school with the intention to learn and further hone my passion. After passing out of school, I decided to pursue a career in Art and Tattoo. I envisaged that pursuing a degree in fine art would be an additional advantage point instead of simply pursuing a diploma course. Hence, I enrolled for a four-year Fine Arts degree from Anitoons, New Delhi. Along with a few like-minded friends, we formed a group called TAG(Tibetan Arts Group) in 2016 and created paintings and murals for restaurants and hotel owners on request. Our most notable work was making a collage portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama using marbles which we were able to present as an expression of our gratitude.
During the second year of my college, I finally managed to save money to purchase a tattoo machine. It was a fulfilling achievement and I made the most out of it by learning as much as I can. I have also drawn tattoos to more than 15 people to date.
A tattoo artist(s) is generally considered an ‘unconventional’ and taboo profession by many in our society, especially among the elders. I personally believe no job is small or big, conventional or unconventional, all professions should be looked through the lens of choices and individual freedom. My dream is to become a good tattoo artist and this short-term course is helping me build my capacity as an emerging tattoo artist. I would like to thank Empowering the Vision Project(ENVISION) for financing the six-months short-term course and supporting my passion.
