-Tenzin Nyima
People perceive health as something tangible that they can achieve in a set period of time however through my long personal journey in fitness I find that it is an ongoing process that one can adopt by making simple changes in their daily routine.
My name is Tenzin Nyima and I am from Kollegal Settlement. Growing up I have been surrounded by genuinely good people in my family and community who are unfortunately afflicted by physical and mental illness. I feel that most Tibetans I met prioritize their physical health and therefore they are unable to deal with past traumatic experience which can give deep impact on mental health. In my personal life I have been a gym member for the past many years and slowly have improved on my yoga practice at home. I have found that Yoga offers not only physical strength, flexibility and sense of wellbeing but also a great upliftment of spirit and stronger mental health. Yoga has helped me approach day to day challenges in my life in a more mindful manner.
I felt the need to take a professional course in Yoga in order to be a well-equipped Yoga trainer. It’s my vision to empower Tibetan women through the practice of yoga and build a community of Physically & Mentally healthy beings who are able to help themselves and others in difficult times.
I have had the good fortune of receiving ENVISION Fellowship program. Which enabled me to join “Samyak Yoga Ashram” located at the outskirts of Mysore city on the banks of Kaveri river. Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Course is a one month course for aspiring Yoga Trainers. I started my course on 2nd February 2020 and as I entered the premises I felt like I was transported to a completely new world. The whole ambience was calm and peaceful, surrounded by nature. I could feel positive energy and warmth from the residents there and instantly I felt disconnected from the chaotic life outside.
The Hatha Yoga Teacher Training course was specifically designed, aiming at training the students to have a comprehensive understanding of Hatha yoga fundamentals and in addition enable students to become teachers themselves. My aim for joining this training was to build a stronger foundation not only for myself but to be able to help others to learn yoga and its benefits.
The whole learning process was fun and empowering. Prior to this training, I had a very narrow sense of understanding of the fundamentals of yoga. While attending the course I could see myself getting transformed and at the same time getting a deeper understanding of the whole dynamics of Hatha Yoga. My outlook on the practice and its approach towards attaining the state of being is completely changed. I have learned the whole system of body and mind connection. While my capacities in Yoga practice were being enhanced during this training, I was also able to develop a lifelong friendship with my fellow classmates. I was able to make a spiritual connection with others and was able to realise the capabilities of overlapping energies. I learned the importance of breathing techniques while practising asana to activate and awaken the higher centres of human consciousness.
After receiving this training I am more than enthusiastic and focussed to teach and impart the knowledge that I have gained. I am dedicated and confident to follow the path that was shown by my teachers and looking forward to help others to pursue the path of yoga for both physical and mental health and wellbeing. In fact, I have already conducted my first yoga class with my colleagues which left me motivated to reach out to more peoples and bring about further attention to the importance of maintaining a balanced between both mental and physical health through yoga. I have also initiated a Facebook page “Tibetan Sisters Fitness” through that means I am trying to share my knowledge on yoga.
