Under the Building Bridges project, ENVISION organises a monthly Mentoring Programme for the students of TCV Selaqui and STS Paonta Sahib. The objective of the initiative is to motivate the students , expand their horizons and help them adapt and adjust outside their comfort zones. This Programme has been ongoing for the last two years with the commitment of volunteer mentors led by Vikram Dutt, the Chief Advisor of the Programme.
This year the Programme began with the leadership workshop at Tarabling Institute. 130 students from the two Schools participated in the workshop. At the Leadership workshop, students were exposed to goal setting, identifying career aspirations and exploring creativity through arts followed by presentations by the students at the end of the day.
Six sessions were conducted during the course of a year. Led by Vikram Dutt, Mr.Manu Sarbarwal, Mr. Rachit Gupta, Mr. Stevie Phuntsok, and Ms. Vatsala Singh facilitated the sessions at the two Schools. ENVISION Programme Executive was always present to coordinate the logistics and session.
In July and August sessions, mentors interacted with students on how to deal with stress management and in particular provided tips on managing time and exam related stress .. During the September session, students not only learnt to write resumes but also gained exposure to photography. They were taken on a visual photographic tour by Vikram Dutt. College admission processes/procedures and identifying career paths based on individual personality traits were the focus of the October interaction.
2016 mentoring programme concluded with a fun outing of the students with the mentors at Dakpathar, a popular picnic spot situated in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand by the bank of Yamuna River. Few of the staff members of two schools also joined in the picnic. During the first half of the day, mentors interacted with the students and conducted some follow-up activities. Recreational games were also played.
ENVISION is grateful to the volunteer mentors for their time and contribution, despite their other commitments. We remain thankful to the Principals, Counselors and teachers of the two schools for extending their support and cooperation to the programme.
