Despite procuring a B.A Programme degree in 2019, I was not content with what I have studied nor did it help me find a job I am really interested in. I realized studying political science, geography and economics is not my forte and felt prolonging it further by pursuing a Masters degree would be a waste of time. Hence, I started exploring my own skills and interest by taking a break. After much contemplation for a long-term career goal, I figured culinary arts is something that really interests me even as a child and a career in the field would be great, I thought.
I did extensive research on training institutes for Culinary Arts in Delhi that are good as well as affordable. Finally, I came across the Asian Academy of Culinary Arts based in Kalkaji New Delhi which offers short-term intensive courses. I chose to pursue a six-month Diploma Course, which was costing 85,000 INR. However, the fees were still high for me and I was in a dilemma since my family is in Tibet, and I do not have a strong financial background. I worked for over a year as the Manager of Norgay Handicrafts at their store in Majnu Ka Tilla, also gave English speaking classes to some Geshes, helped with the Tibetan language to small students from TCV at Majnu-ka-Tilla.
Then I came to know about the fellowship ENVISION offers and decided to approach for guidance and financial support. Not only ENVISION is financing my course, but their Career Counsellor also helped me enroll in the Academy. I started my course in November 2020. I am really happy with my decision to do this course and I have learnt how to cook different Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes so far. I look forward to learning more!
