Tibetans have been in exile for the past 62 years, with most of the population residing in India. Under the vision of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan administration, the education of Tibetan children has always been a priority right from the start. Many Tibetan schools were set up to address the unique needs of Tibetan children. Today there are 76 Tibetan schools in exile with about 24,741 students, per the data maintained by the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration.
Lack of resources and scant individual attention due to the large numbers of students in each class hinder the actualisation of each child’s true potential. Many students graduate from school lacking self-confidence and not knowing what they want to pursue in life. They move on to universities and careers without understanding their true potential and interests.
Empowering the Vision Project offers support in promoting self-confidence and helping students discover themselves so that they are better able to make the right choices in life and thus become self-reliant and dynamic.
Currently, EVP has five dedicated staff to carry out its mission. Since 2009, 100 different programmes have been conducted with an estimated 7285 beneficiaries. Of these, 3225 are school children, 2450 university students, 45 Entrepreneurs, 981 job seekers and 584 GTPN and others. (Updated 30th March 2024). It does not include beneficiaries in 2008 since we were only able to maintain accurate data from 2009 onwards. Our beneficiaries are spread out in nine different states in India, most of them residing in the Delhi area.
