My name is Chime Youdon and I am pursuing Hotel Management course at the International Institute of Hotel Management, Badarpur, New Delhi. I completed my higher secondary education and senior secondary education from Tibetan homes school, Mussoorie. I came from Tibet at the age of eight years old.
As part of my Hotel Management Course, I am mandated to take five months internship to gain practical know-how of hotel Management and how people involved in hotel/management industry runs it. I am lucky to have been selected to intern at the Radisson Blue Marina Hotel, Connaught Place, New Delhi. The Internship started on January 29th and is scheduled to end on 30th June 2018. Although the internship is a part of the course I am taking but I have realized that it is a strong ingredient for me to prepare myself for a job right after the completion of the course. I have perhaps gained more practical knowledge from the internship till date than from classroom lectures.
My career goal is to become a General Manager in a good hotel industry so as to imbibe and build skills as much as I can before starting a hotel business of my own. After gaining enough experiences and efficiency, I am planning to go back to Tibet and open a hotel close to my hometown. I have always been longing to go back to Tibet and take care of my ageing parents. I see a good prospect in the hotel business both for my family and for my own personal development.
This internship, therefore, is one of the building blocks towards the achievement of my career goal. However as they say, “good things never come easy,” there is no stipend/pay from the Hotel for the internship. Five months duration and long travel distance from my place of residence to the hotel is challenging both in terms of physical energy and financial hiccups. While I can challenge myself with the former, it was a constraint with the latter. I am extremely grateful for Empowering the Vision for financing my internship and jumping to my help when I needed the most.
