Fellowship Programme

Empowering the Vision Project (ENVISION) would like to announce a fellowship programme to support career goals of young Tibetans residing in India. To apply for this fellowship, applicants must be enthusiastic, committed and motivated with a strong sense of responsibility.

Fellowship Category:

Applicants can opt for any of the two categories:

Internships: Applicants should clearly state their career interest and preferred sector in which they would like to gain experience. Preference will be given to those applicants who are willing to make their own effort at getting internships.

ENVISION will provide a monthly stipend of 5000 Rupees each to five Tibetans for a period of six months.

Short-term courses/trainings: Beside internships, ENVISION offers grants not exceeding 50,000 Rupees each to five Tibetans for short-term courses and trainings preferably with assured job placements.

Eligibility Criteria:

Age between 18 – 35 years
Minimum Class X Certificate
Copy of Green Book
Statement of Purpose (Not more than 250 words)

Tibetan Entrepreneurship Fund

The Tibetan Entrepreneurship Fund has been created to help Tibetans in the age group of 25-40 who have the vision, drive and idea to set up or enlarge a business which is socially responsible, economically beneficial, culturally sensitive and environmentally friendly.

Candidates should have a good understanding of what it takes to start and run a business. There is no minimum educational requirement apart from a basic literacy and a good understanding of business accounting. Those who are selected will receive a loan of between 1 lakh to 2 lakh Indian Rupees. The loan must be paid in four years with repayment starting from the second year.

There will be two phases in the selection process:

Assessment of business proposals for shortlisting
Interview of the shortlisted candidates

The first phase will assess the quality and strength of the business concept while the second will be judged mainly on the quality of the entrepreneur.

General criteria for selection will be:

Financial viability (should be in a position to repay the loan)

Clear and realistic

Social impact

Building Bridges

Building Bridges Project is an innovative exposure and exchange programme designed to bring together young people from the Tibetan and Indian communities to foster better understanding of cultures and develop respect, care, learning and sharing. The project aims to expand comfort zones and broaden horizons as well as nurture friendships and relationships between communities, institutions and individuals.
Under this project, we facilitate mentoring programme, summer camps and school exchange programmes.

Mentoring Programme

ENVISION under Building Bridges Project, facilitate Mentoring Programme for the students to expand their horizon, to influence and motivate the students and helping them to adapt and adjust outside their comfort zone.
The students of class XI of STS Paonta Sahib and TCV Selakui Schools are selected for this programme.

Main Objective

To foster better understanding and develop respect, care, learning and sharing between Tibetan and Indian Communities
To expand the comfort zones of Tibetan students
To nurture friendship and relationship between communities, institutions and individuals

This programme was aimed to facilitate the emotional, intellectual and holistic growth of the students by encouraging and promoting a structured interaction with accomplished and successful members of the larger Dehradun society who would act as mentors, becoming an interface between the outside world, dominated by an Indian culture and a Tibetan culture which can loosely be described through Indian eyes, as soft but yet extremely supple with tremendous inner strength.

Summer Camp Programme

The pilot event of the building Bridges Project was a summer camp for school children held in June 2013 at Upper TCV School, Dharamshala. The camp involved 18 students of class X from Vasant Valley school and 18 students from classes IX and X from Upper TCV School. The selection of the students was on a voluntary basis.
The programme was a collaboration between ENVISION, Ritinjali, Vasant Valley and Upper TCV school, Dharamshala.

Main Objectives:

Compare and contrast personal family experience with their buddies – see differences and more importantly smilarities
Undertake a study of Indian and Tibetan communities in Dharamsala and identify key strengths and challenges
Design and undertake a community action (service/awareness programme) on a issue of shared concern

Job Readiness Training

Employability Skills Training Workshops are organised to enhance job readiness skills of young Tibetans. Sessions are held in CV writing, cover letter writing, interview techniques, communication skills and discussions on career options availability. Workshops are participatory in nature involving discussions, group activities and use of audio-visuals.

Counseling and Placement

Focusing on subsidized training, building job linkages and counselling on job related queries, ENVISION has been collaborating with Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration, since August 2012. This project is especially designed to cater to Tibetan youth in the Northern region of India who are graduate/undergraduate, unemployed and dropouts. Under this project, ENVISION offers group and individual sessions on self-exploration, communication skills, career planning, job search guidance and placement assistance.

Global Tibetan Professionals Network (GTPN)

Global Tibetan Professionals Network (GTPN) is a platform where Tibetan professionals from diverse backgrounds can network with each other and find creative ways of contributing to the community. Through this network, Tibetan professionals around the world can share ideas, information and resources among themselves and with those aspiring to become like them through mentorship.

Launched on Nov 1, 2008 with support from Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi, today GTPN has five active chapters: GTPN Delhi, Bangalore, Toronto, New York and London. There are currently ___ online registered GTPN members.

ENVISION’s main objectives for establishing the GTPN are as follows:

To identify and promote Tibetans who have achieved success in different professions as role models
To promote the involvement of Tibetan professionals in sustaining Tibetan identify and strengthening the Tibetan voice

WHY JOIN GTPN?

Networking opportunities

GTPN membership will provide a platform for Tibetan professionals to network with others sharing similar career interests and challenges as well as those in different fields. Tibetan professionals can benefit from each other by exchange of ideas, information and resources. The skills, knowledge and experiences of the successful Tibetan professionals will be a resource to the younger professionals.

Connect and contribute to the community

Due to lack of a proper channel of communication, many Tibetan professionals wishing to contribute to the community do not know where to begin. GTPN can connect them to the community as well as support their involvement in community development.

One of the specific ways in which the professionals can help the community is by mentoring younger Tibetans interested in similar career lines. Mentoring can happen one on one and also through meetings and workshops.

GTPN can also establish links with the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala as well as other Tibetan institutes and schools to explore other ways of contributing to the community

Conferences and Event

Chapters organise networking events where members meet to exchange ideas, resources and have discussions on relevant topics.

ENVISION which serves as the umbrella body for GTPN will facilitate conferences and events from time to time where GTPN members will be invited. These events will serve as a great opportunity for networking and sharing resources with other professionals.

Any Tibetan professional willing to share ideas, information and resources with other Tibetan professionals
Any Tibetan professional with a deep sense of commitment to contribute to the community

WHO IS A PROFESSIONAL?

A person who is into a body of knowledge which requires a certain skill-set and which has been acquired through, either academic qualification or experience over a period of time.

FUTURE GOALS

Create various professional forums to draw upon the skills and experiences of Tibetan professionals
Provide platforms for Tibetan professionals to come together to exchange ideas and resources as well as to contribute to the community.
