PROFILE | Zakir Husain College is one of the oldest colleges of Delhi University and has a long and illustrious history. It was founded by Ghaziuddin Feroz Jung in the year 1792 as a madarsa and was named Delhi College in the year 1825. Later on, after merging with Lahore College it was renamed Anglo-Arabic College. It was affiliated to Delhi University in 1928. While evening classes began in 1958, the college got its present name in 1975. The college shifted to its present premises in 1991. Dr S A Hamideen, principal of the college says, ‘‘Our emphasis this year would be on placements. Moreover, we are waiting for the Academic Council’s approval following which we would start an honours programme in business economics from next year.’’ The fee structure is one of the lowest in Delhi.
